WPPB LEADERSHIP DESCRIPTIONS
In each position, duties include but are not limited to what is stated.
STATION MANAGER - With Program Director, right hand man/woman to Mr. Boone; should know everything about the station and how it is run; WPPB should be their extracurricular activity - plan to stay after school at times and attend all WPPB Events; must have own transportation; work with program director to establish goals, schedule and conduct staff meetings, develop and present ideas to further the station mission; supervise and oversee training of all station staff; plan and execute WPPB events and fundraising efforts; strong leadership qualities.
PROGRAM DIRECTOR - With Station Manager, right hand man/woman to Mr. Boone; WPPB should be their extracurricular activity; plan to stay after school at times and attend all WPPB Events; in charge of live remote broadcasts; must have own transportation; oversee all activities and departments related to the on-air broadcast (news, sports, music, production); developing, approving and scheduling all regular and special programming; work with other departments that integrate with programming to further station mission; schedules any and all commercials, PSAs, promos, etc.; makes sure all remote broadcasts are properly staffed and produced; tracks community service programming; strong leadership qualities.
NEWS DIRECTOR - creates liaisons with the four high schools to get and report school news; develops news team; airs regular newscasts, interviews and news features as well as public affairs/community service programming that covers the scope of school to community to national and international news; free to develop staff and the department according to the station mission; plans on-location broadcasts as needed.
SPORTS DIRECTOR - creates liaisons with the four high schools to get and report school sports news; develops sports team; airs regular sportscasts, interviews and play-by-play coverage; free to develop staff and the department according to the station mission; plans on-location broadcasts as needed.
MUSIC DIRECTOR - manage the station's music library; works with program director to shape musical sound of the radio station; adds music to the library (with permission); follows and implements weekly music charts; monitors shows and library to maintain school appropriateness on the air.
PRODUCTION DIRECTOR - conveys the image and sound of the station; produces commercials, PSAs, promos, liners, sweepers, IDs, etc.; trains staff in production techniques.
PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR - promotes station image as lead coordinator of station activities on-air and in the community; plans, staffs, and executes events, including setup, live broadcasts, contests, etc.; must be available to attend events.
SOCIAL MEDIA DIRECTOR - Regularly updates WPPB social media accounts; assigns team responsibilities for website, station blog, staff photographer, videographer, etc.
BUSINESS DIRECTOR - leads fundraising efforts with creative ideas for sponsorship, donations, etc., especially during two six-week fundraising periods during the year.
