There are several ways to raise funds for the trip, both in the classroom and out. First, however, I'd like to give you an encouraging update. We originally set the cost of the trip at $800 to be safe, and while that may be the ultimate price once you pay for food and souvenirs, I've been able to get the price you owe the school down to $600. So with the original $300 deposit, that would leave you with an additional $300 to pay before we leave. I think you can raise that amount if you work hard at fundraising, and, more good news, the sale of the Chick-fil-A biscuits will knock another $100 off your balance and you don't even have to do anything for that! So basically, you're looking to raise $200 plus what you need for food and souvenirs.
As a reminder, included in the $600 is airfare to and from GSP, hotel for 4 nights, transportation to and from airport, conference, sightseeing pass, and Broadway show. All meals and other costs are up to you.
So, on to the fundraising. As mentioned, we are selling Chick-fil-A biscuits at the Career Center every Wednesday and Thursday morning through February. We are also selling Val-o-grams through Valentine's Day, and we have our $20 Challenge, which is how most students paid for the trip last year. We raised over $4,000 from this fundraiser alone!
The $20 Challenge consists of a flyer we take to businesses (individuals as well) to generate support for the radio station. It explains who we are and what we do and gives various denominations of $20 that can be donated, as well as what we will give back to those businesses who donate - including everything from t-shirts to commercials and ads on mypulseradio.com to live events at their business, including the Pulse mascot, PlatyPulse. We have found most people will at least donate $20 (even if it's just because they want you to leave). We have also found many enthusiastic supporters. $20 Challenge forms and monies, like your remaining balance, are due no later than the day before we leave for NYC.
All forms are available in class and can be downloaded and printed from here as well. See the column to the right.
